Week 15, 16 and 17
Feliz año nuevo, happy new year, gelukkig nieuwjaar!!
Long time since I wrote, I was busy studying and celebrating Christmas with my family!!

Week 15
I had to study a lot this week so I did not do that much special things! On Tuesday I had dinner with some roomies, The Italians made parmigiana or something like that, really delicious and Marieke and I made apple crumble. I spend a few hours in the Starbucks on Wednesday because it was too cold in my room. Marieke and I had to do a presentation on Thursday, which went great. In the afternoon I had my Spanish test that was okay. On Friday Jamie came over and cooked Sara and me a nice dinner. I decided to switch rooms with Marieke for the weekend because she had a friend over. On Saturday I went to the el Corte ingles outlet again with Meike, we cycled through the rain. The whole weekend it was raining very hard. On Sunday Marieke, her friend and I spend 9 hours in the Starbucks to study. We had an exam the next day, so we had to, unfortunately.

Monday 19 December – First exam and Christmas dinner
In the morning I had to make my first exam for the course sleeping disorders. The test went fine (I know now that I passed it!!). Afterwards, I drunk some coffee with classmates close to the university because we had a question hour at 12:30. The hour was really short because nobody really had started learning yet. In the evening I had a pre-Christmas dinner with the roomies. I made a pizza Christmas tree. After dinner, I skyped with Florine and Marlies, the girls I am going travel with to Bolivia and Peru in May, June and July.

Tuesday 20 December – studying again…
Marieke and I had to hand in assignments on Thursday so we had to work hard on the assignments because we did not start yet. We spend some time in the Starbucks, again.

Wednesday 21 December – more studying… and Radio city
We had to finish the assignment so Marieke and I went to a coffee bar, with gluten free brownie and the best coffee I have had so far in Valencia. In the evening we went to Roelle’s house, for our last night out in Valencia before Christmas. We went with a group to radio city, a bar with live music. On this particular night, they had a jam session with reggae music. A lot of different artists came on stage and made music, is was amazing how talented they were.

Thursday 22 December – Last day in Valencia before Christmas!!!
In the morning Marieke and I went to our last lecture we would ever have in Valencia. The teacher had asked us to bring something for everybody to say goodbye. Marieke and I bought Christmas balls and made a ribbon that said; ‘fijne kerst’ (merry Christmas). The teacher was very emotional because she liked the class a lot. She said something nice about everyone. She told me that she like my good sense of humour and how well I participated in the class. Made me feel proud of myself. Afterwards, I went to find the teacher we had to give the assignments to. After walking around the building not being able to find her, we finally found her coming out of the chapel in our university. I went to mercat central with Meike to buy some gifts for our families. In the afternoon Marieke and I planned on going to have a manicure and lunch at chiao checca. Our plans did not work out as we hoped. First, the manicure place was booked fully. So we went to another place. Marieke’s nails were done, so fancy! and I had my hair cut. It is very difficult to explain in Spanish what you want with your hair, but it worked out great. When we arrived at the restaurant we saw it was closed because of a private event. We had lunch somewhere else, which was also fine. In the evening we had to pack our stuff because we had to leave very early in the morning. I had to say goodbye to Meike because she wouldn’t return from the Netherlands. That was weird, the goodbyes here start now because some people are leaving early.

Friday 23 December – NETHERLANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After waking up way too early, Marieke and I went to the airport. All was fine until we were close to Amsterdam. The pilot told us we couldn’t land because of the fog. We circled for half an hour before landing. When finally on the ground I had to wait on my luggage, I could see my mother and Ruben through the glass unable to go to them yet. Marlies arrived from Madrid at the same time so she joined me. When I finally got my luggage, mainly consisting of food, we went home. I had lunch with my father, sister, niece and nephew. Afterwards, I had a nap because I needed energy for the evening. After dinner with my Mommies, I brought Ruben to the train station and drove to Wageningen. There I finally saw some of my friends from my student association. We tried to go to a party, unfortunately, we were too late so we were not allowed in because it was full. Fortunately, there was a house party we could go to.
Saturday 24 December – Scheemda and Christmas evening
After breakfast, I had promised to Ruben to come and watch his soccer tournament in Scheemda. It was nice to see him play again and to see some of the boys from his team. In the evening we had a nice Christmas dinner together, which he prepared for me.

Sunday 25 December – Christmas
Ruben made me a delicious breakfast, cutie he is. We had to go to Utrecht to my sister and her boyfriend for the Christmas dinner. First time in years I didn’t have to cook a big dinner which was very nice. They prepared the dinner and it was delicious. My father came over as well. We played a game after dinner which I lost, as usual.

Monday 26 December – second day of Christmas
After an unplanned breakfast with the family, Ruben and I went to his family in Zutphen. He played some more board games, but I refuse to play board games that take a long time, with his family. Most of them are too good, and they take forever to think about their next step. Instead, I was cooking and helping Rubens mother. I had to make the desert, so I made a vegan basil pannacotta. It turned out very well despite it being the first time I made pannacotta. The dinner was very nice and afterwards, we played some short games.

Tuesday 27 December – cinema and bracelet
In the morning Ruben and I went to a store to buy me a bracelet because we are two years together now. We picked a very pretty one, I am really happy with. In the afternoon we went to the cinema with Leonie, a friend of his family, and all the children of the family. We watched fantastic beast and where to find them. A really awesome movie I can recommend to everybody. After dinner, we played some more games, still not winning.

Wednesday 28 December – Amsterdam
Because I missed flora a lot I went to Amsterdam to see her. Before, Ruben and I went to a board game store, to buy some more games. I guess we are addicted. Unfortunately, flora didn’t have that much time, but it was still nice to see her again. I had dinner with Ruben at his friend's place in Amsterdam. Afterwards, we went to a bar to have some drinks. It was nice to be in a bar in the Netherlands, being able to order in Dutch!!

Thursday 29 December – Grandpa and Grandma married 60 years
60 years ago my grandparents were married on this day. We had a little party with the close family to celebrate that. Also, the mayor of their town came to congratulate them. It was a nice party, with many songs, memories and a lot of food. I loved seeing my family again and to meet the brothers and sisters of my grandmother. My grandparents are very special to me and it was nice to celebrate their love for each other. After dinner, Ruben and I went shopping a bit in Utrecht. When we were done shopping we went to Eline, my sister and Taco to say goodbye.

Friday 30 December – back to Valencia
After a relaxing morning, packing and saying goodbye to my father, I had lunch with my Mommies. I was watching my flight time again and again because there was still a lot of fog so many flights were delayed or cancelled. When Ruben and I got to the airport, I saw I had half an hour delay. Saying goodbye was hard, but easier than the times before because I was looking forward being in Valencia again. When I finally was in the airplane we had to de-ice before flying. It was fun to see how they do that. Arriving in Valencia was weird but nice, felt like coming home. I had some difficulty speaking Spanish but that past soon.

Saturday 31 December – New Year’s Eve
After getting groceries and preparing my room for the arrival of Melissa and Haye, I had to shower. But they arrived an hour earlier than they expected so I had to send them into town because I was not yet ready. After showering, I went to them in the city centre to have a drink. However, apparently, most of the bars close around 6 on New Year’s Eve here. Finally, we found one that also had heaters. We cooked dinner together and had some drinks. Roelle had a house party we went to. After playing some beer pong we went to the big square for the countdown. I bought grapes but I forgot them. Traditionally they eat a grape on the 12 last seconds of the year. I expected a lot of fireworks, however, after less than 5 minutes it was over. However, they had a DJ on the square so we danced a bit. We went to a bar near my home and danced until the morning. It was an amazing, happy, fun and crazy night.

Sunday 1 January – hangover
I slept the whole day, as did Melissa and Haye. We had dinner at Taco Bell, and the good burger because Haye was very hungry. Afterwards, we watched wreck-it ralph and went to sleep again.
Monday 2 January – walking around and chilling
After some sightseeing around the town with Melissa and Haye, they had to get back to the town they were staying in. we were just in time to get the bus, and afterwards I didn’t do anything the whole day except for cleaning my room.

Tuesday 3 January – studying
Because I was going on a trip with Marlies on Wednesday I had to study the whole day, was boring but necessary. In the evening I made sushi, enough for dinner and lunch the next days

Wednesday 4 January – Zaragoza
I had to wake up early because I had to get to the place my blablacar was leaving. After a three hour ride in an Audi, I had to wait a bit for Marlies. After she arrived we went to the centre of Zaragoza. Because the sun was shining we ate the sushi outside on a bench. We checked in in our small hostel in the middle of the centre. The room was very small but nice. We walked around the whole afternoon, visited the two cathedrals, Christmas market, the tapestry museum and drunk some vino caliente. We had dinner at a very nice tapas restaurant.

Thursday 5 January – walking around and the three kings
We walked around the city and visited the palace. The palace was in Mudejar style, with some Moorish influences. It was really pretty. We had to be in the centre on time because there would be a parade to welcome the three kings. It was a very big parade, a bit like the carnival in the Netherlands. Because it was a bit cold, and it lasted for 30 minutes, we went home immediately afterwards. When we finally were warm again we went out for dinner. We had dinner at an organic vegetarian restaurant. Which was very delicious.

Friday 6 January – walking walking walking
We walked through the expo park of 2008. It was very quiet, there was almost no one. We had a three-course lunch, which was nice but soooooooooooooooooooooo much. We walked back to the station to go home. After a three hour ride back, I went to bed early tired from all the walking, talking and eating. It was very nice with Marlies, practising travelling together for our big trip.

Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 January – studying
I had to study the whole weekend because of my exams in the next weeks. On Sunday night Marieke finally came back from her trip to the Netherlands. We had a nice dinner together, I made pasta and banana pancakes.

I probably will write again when I'm back in the Netherlands. Next two weeks I will study and in the last week I will go on a road trip with Marieke :)

Hasta Luego!!!
